Homelab

Two servers, around 20 services and a MikroTik router

Homelab

My homelab is two servers running around 20 services, which adds up to almost 40 docker containers, basically everything I use day to day. It’s where I get to live out my enthusiasm for Linux and networking and I learn something new with every service I add. This is what runs on it right now:

Btw yes I do know that the FritzBox being between my ISP and the CCR2004 is very inefficent but unfortenately im bound by my ISP and since I dont have fiber I would’ve needed a modem anyway. If I ever get blessed with fiber though the SFP+ ports on the CCR2004 will definetly get used. If you live in Switzerland definetly use Init7 and not Monopolycom.

ServiceWhat I use it for
Immichphotos
Paperlessdocuments
Jellyfincompletly legally optained movies and anime :)
Navidromemusic streaming also very legally optained ._.
Forgejogit hosting, mostly just backup and archival of mine and other repos
Tangled knotknot for tangled but its unused
Ziitcoding stats, one of my own project
Rybbitanalytics for my websites
Uptime Kumauptime monitoring
n8nautomations like getting star notifications on my phone
Databasusdatabase backups
Zerobytebackups of everything else
Dockhandmanaging all the docker stuff
Bambuddymanaging my Bambu Lab 3D printers without the cloud
ExcaliDasha dashboard for my Excalidraw stuff
LaraPaperthe backend for my TRMNL e-ink display
qBittorrent, qui and gluetuntorrents, with all of its traffic going through a VPN
4geta privacy friendly search engine
Caddyreverse proxy

I recently redid my whole network around a MikroTik CCR2004 and split everything into VLANs so that these are properly separated:

  • users
  • servers
  • IoT devices

On top of that come some firewall rules that I set up on purpose. Everything that’s publicly reachable goes through a Hetzner VPS and that caddy reverse proxy with a WireGuard tunnel back home.

After buying my first MikroTik device and with the CCR2004 not exactly being cheap (334.05 CHF or $401) I have to say that I regret no part of it. Their software is so well made and you do really have full control of the device.
